When work makes you ill

The health of employees must be protected by law. Nevertheless, work can make people ill, whether due to the content of the work or the working conditions. The SRF health program «Puls» on Monday was dedicated to the topic of «occupational illnesses». During and after the program, Dieter Kissling, head of ifa, also answered questions from the audience in the chat.

You can read the chat transcripts here.

Charitable causes supported

The ifa maintains a support fund for employees and their families in financial need. Surpluses are donated annually to charitable organizations and campaigns. This year, an extraordinary donation was already made in August for the victims of the devastating storms in Ticino, Valais and Graubünden. The ifa employees have now decided to support two further organizations at the Annual General Meeting: Redog, the Swiss Association for Search and Rescue Dogs, which are used in missing persons cases; and the Tamahú Guatemala relief organization, which provides training for nurses or clean water for remote indigenous villages.

What is sustainable business?

On Monday, the Swiss CFO Day 2024 took place in Zug, this time with the topic «Sustainability». One of the speakers was Dieter Kissling, head of ifa, who took the opportunity to draw attention to occupational health aspects. If you want to do business sustainably, you have to keep an eye on the health of your employees. This is how companies fulfill their responsibility – and: It pays off. The smart ones invest in prevention, including when it comes to health.

The world of work is changing rapidly – what about occupational medicine?

The world of work is undergoing profound change – and not just because of digitalization. The increasing isolation of more and more people who have to commute farther and farther is putting a strain on mental health. At the same time, how can work be designed for an aging workforce? And what does sustainable work look like in the face of the climate crisis? Occupational medicine has to take these changes into account. This is the focus of the 37th National Congress of Occupational Medicine in Montpellier this week, which is also being attended by experts from the ifa.
