Health Checks

Our health is the basis for a high quality of life. Regular check-ups can help to detect health problems and their consequences at an early stage. Treatment can be initiated at an early stage.

ABB Health Checks

ABB Switzerland supports preventive healthcare for its middle and senior management employees and works with the ifa Institute for Occupational Medicine as a partner in this area. Participants* in the fringe benefit plan can choose between two different health checks at the ifa: an Extensive Check-up for CHF 1500.– and a Health Check-up for CHF 800.–.

*MK01 employees over the age of 40 receive an Executive Check-up paid for by ABB Switzerland every 3 or 2 years and therefore cannot choose this in the fringe benefit plan.

Details on how the check-ups are carried out

Before the check-ups

Please come to the practice in the morning on an empty stomach to have your blood taken. Please do not eat any solid food after midnight.

You will need a full bladder for the ultrasound examination (only for the extensive check-up), so please drink enough. Suitable beverages are water and unsweetened or artificially sweetened tea. Coffee, milk and fruit juices are not permitted.

Please bring the following documents and clothing to the check-up:

Sportswear for the exercise ECG

  • Sneakers
  • Gym shorts / T-shirt
  • (Sports bra)

Afterwards you will have the opportunity to shower (shower gel and towel are provided).

Important documents

  • Vaccination card
  • Details of medication
  • Health insurance card (for basic insurance and supplementary insurance)
  • Health passports, if available (e. g. allergy passport)

Waiting times cannot be completely ruled out during the examination. Our guest WLAN is available for these times, or you can bring a book to read.

Female employees may wish to be examined by a female doctor. In this case, please contact us immediately by phone or e-mail.

Procedure

The blood sample, electrocardiogram (ECG) and lung function test are followed by an ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs and the carotid artery (only for the Extensive Check-up).

You will then be served a hearty breakfast with a daily newspaper. You will then be interviewed and examined in detail by one of our medical specialists for one hour.

This is followed by an exercise ECG on a bicycle. This records whether your heart and blood pressure behave normally under physical stress.

After a shower, our doctor will be available to discuss all the results with you and give you further recommendations and tips.

The Health Check-up takes about 2 hours, the Extensive Check-up about 4.5 hours. Please reserve enough time from the date you have chosen.

After the check-ups

Based on the results, we can give you recommendations and tips on how you can improve or maintain your health. If any health problems are diagnosed during the check-up, we will give you recommendations on how to proceed.

At the end of the examination, you will receive all your results printed out and electronically on a CD, as well as a second CD with your X-ray images.

Data protection

The ifa doctors are subject to medical confidentiality, and ABB Switzerland does not receive any individual examination results or information that would allow conclusions to be drawn about a person's state of health. As an employee, you will receive all your personal examination results.
